The Potential of the Internet

Posted on | December 28, 2009 | No Comments

As we all continue to go down the road of moving with the development of the internet, think of this. The internet is 15 years old, still underage! Mobile devices like the iPhone, Android, and Blackberry are making the internet pocket ready. We are becoming even closer and more dependent to the web.

What does this mean?

Advertising in other mediums like Television, Print, and Radio are not as successful as they used to be. Advertising and reaching the end user is all about eyes isn’t it? The more eyes, or ears (in radio), the more people are being reached. Right now billions of dollars are being invested into TV advertising. How many of you DVR your TV programs and fast forward through the commercials? I do. The traditional cable or satelite box is going to be extinct in a few years and replaced by devices like Apple TV or Boxee. Let’s say you want to watch something about cooking on your television. Instead of watching whatever is on the cooking channel you can choose from hundreds of online cooking shows.

Remember, advertisers will go where people go. The money that is now in TV advertising will transfer to the internet.

So what am I saying?

Create a website, which you can get from Godaddy.com. In total it comes out to about $60 to get your website purchased and hosted. A lot of you are thinking to yourself, what am I going to do with a website? Create a blog (online journal) using Wordpress (free blog tool/ publishing platform) about anything you are passionate about. Whether you are passionate about comic books, fishing, or cereal. It really doesn’t matter. If you are knowledgeable about your passion, you can make money and enjoy what you’re doing. This is serious. Gary Vaynerchuk is someone who has been a big influence on me and a very successful individual in the field of social media (content created by people using highly accessible and scalable publishing technologies). In his book that I recently read, CrushIt!, he explains how you can monetize off of your passion. It was about “The social media revolution that will change the way we live our lives and conduct business.”

If you don’t like what you’re doing at work and only do it for the money, get into something that you love. I am a fond believer that you only live once and you should make life as enjoyable as you can by doing the things you are passionate about.

Christmas in Connecticut

Posted on | December 27, 2009 | No Comments

Every year we alternate, either Christmas is spent in Connecticut or spent in New York. This year it was in Connecticut. Some of the family did something really special, instead of buying tons of gifts for each other, we bought gifts for the not so fortunate. One of my cousins lives in California, she had a program over there called Adopt a Family where her and her boyfriend made dinner and bought gifts for a very special family. My mother found a young lady here in NY who went to my sisters school that had a very rough past couple years. We got her gifts to help raise her spirits during the holiday. It felt good to do a good deed.

I had a great time visiting the family up in Connecticut. One of the highlights was sleigh-riding with the kids! I admit that the snow and grass were very patchy because a good majority had melted but we made the best of it. May the new decade come in peace, for New Year’s I go back to Connecticut with my lady.
